Sample Quote "Electric Trains are now running between Liverpool and Crewe, completing the second stage of this vast scheme. The first stage, between Manchester and Crewe, was completed in 1960."

Archivist's Summary A poster advertising the completion of stage 2 of the electrification of the West Coast Mainline. It shows an express train hauled by AL1 (later class 81) locomotive E3005 passing a local Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) service, while a permanent way gang, complete with lookout, stand aside. A powerful example of BR's use of the "sparks effect" in publicity of the time.
