"The 10.0 a.m. down express passenger train, Marylebone to Bradford, came into collision with a down train of empty goods wagons which was being backed off the main line into a siding to clear the road for the express. I regret to state that the fireman of the express was killed as a result of having jumped from the engine immediately before the collision. The express driver and a locomotive inspector who was on the footplate suffered from head and other injuries, and two passengers and two of the staff on the train suffered from shock."
