"The 11.55 a.m. down express passenger train Paddington to Milford Haven had stopped at Cockett Station, just clear of Cockett Tunnel, for the purpose of detaching an assisting engine from the front of the train, when a light engine, Swansea to Neyland, following on the same track, emerged from the tunnel and ran into the rear van of the passenger train. Twenty-eight passengers were injured, in addition to the driver and fireman of the light engine, but the injuries were of a minor nature and none of them had to be detained after receiving medical attention; the fireman had to go off duty."
